Teaching Philosophy

Now that I am on year 3 in the classroom, this is my updated teaching philosophy.

Mathematics

I believe that we are all mathematicians and we are all capable of doing math well. I inform my students that anyone that does math is in fact a mathematician, therefore they are all mathematicians. This can be a hard concept for some of them to truly embrace, but I think it is important that they view themselves as individuals not only capable of doing math, but capable of doing math well.

Lifelong Learning

I truly believe that learning is a lifelong journey. I hope to teach my students the skills of problem-solving and perseverance through their math education. I hope they become curious individuals and are always striving to learn something new. Yes, their math education is important, but if I can teach them skills that they can take with them to continue being lifelong students, I think that is a win!

Joy

I have an incredible amount of passion for this job and my students. I hope that by showing up each day and sharing this joy with my students, they too may come to find this joy in their math journey. I bring this passion and joy into our classroom through building positive relationships with my students, creating meaningful and fun lessons, and by leaving room for spontaneous moments of curiosity and laughter.

As a part of my CAPS class, I was required to develop my own teaching philosophy. In this paper, you will find the purpose of education, my personal philosophy of education, my motivation for entering the career of teaching, and my understanding of curriculum, instruction, and assessment.

My philosophy states that education is a lifelong thing. It also states that education is more than just textbook instruction, but also experiences.
